Spirit Village is a child-centered Mass for children to explore spirituality. We on the first Sunday of every month at 9 a.m. during the school year (except in December). We sing, hear a spiritual story, and give thanks for our “most amazing day today.” We pray, share communion, and after the service join in arts and crafts time. On other Sundays in the month we offer spiritual activities and/or education in our Community Room. On these Sundays, children may leave just before the first scripture reading and return to their families as the offering is being collected. Or children may stay with their families in the sanctuary for the entire service.
At Spirit Village, we invite children to use their senses to explore their emerging faith, wonder, discover and share experiences of God in community. We recommend Spirit Village is recommended for children under 10 and welcome individuals on the Autism spectrum and those with special needs. We offer children older than 10 the opportunity to help with our 10:10 worship service.
Spirit Village is a collaborative effort by parents, adults, and the clergy of St. Cyprian’s. Adults from the congregation join in preparing for Spirit Village and in presenting the weekly Bible story drawing on the practices and resources of Godly Play. Vicar Fr. Tom Jackson, coordinates this service and celebrates the Eucharist at Spirit Village each week.
We use as our Spirit Village thanksgiving prayer the first verse of American poet e.e. cumming’s poem “i thank You God for most this amazing.” Above you can see how we adapted this stanza for Spirit Village use.
